Log Home Council’s Log Grading & Buyers Tips

March 11, 2010

We were delighted this past month to host a visit from one of Maine’s Congressional delegation, Senator Susan Collins. On her hour-long stopover, I gave her an abbreviated mill tour, which included the log slasher, the house manufacturing line, our biomass boiler and the Cedar Ideas subsidiary, where we incorporate cedar remnants into window boxes, arbors and other attractive and useful products. Coming from a lumber-based family business background, Sen. Collins was impressed with our operation. We were delighted to spend some time with her! Click here for some pictures taken during her tour.

On a sadder note, we were dismayed to learn that another Maine-based log home company, Moosehead Cedar Log Homes, suffered a devastating fire just a week before they were set to resume production for the year. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Moosehead family. As good Maine neighbors, we were able offer assistance to Moosehead and their customers through these difficult circumstances.  Many thanks to the Katahdin mill staff for stepping up!

In this month’s View From Up North we explore the Log Home Council’s log grading program and why it’s important to you. We give you an insider’s look at one of our off-site seminars-they’re both informative and fun!

If you have a home on the market, you’ll want to check out how Home Energy Audits can be a tool for selling your home and realizing your log home dream. Organizing closets is a way to maximize storage space-we’ll take a look at some of the new design options. And finally just in time for April 15, we examine an overview of energy tax credits for which you may qualify, as well as sources to learn more.
