IECC 2009 Energy Code Updates

September 13, 2010

This month, we provide an update of an extremely important story to anyone planning to build a log home-the new IECC 2009 energy code updates. We provide you with some compelling data that demonstrates the benefits of improving the energy efficiency of your log home, as well as the long term benefits for our country.

It’s a pretty well-known secret that log home owners love their dogs. Yet when considering the design of their log home, these best friends are often forgotten. We spoke with two canine shelter experts to share some of their secrets for creating a harmonious atmosphere for two- and four-legged housemates.

We also take a look at the issue of window condensation. This issue has little to do with the window design and lots to do with indoor humidity. Finally in this month’s Green Tip, we offer some new ideas for keeping track of your energy consumption in your home.

New Energy Codes Update

It’s been about a year since we first started talking about the new energy efficiency codes IECC 2009 and much longer since we first introduced our Energy Envelope System®. We thought it would be helpful to give you an current update on the process of state adoption of IECC 2009 code requirements. Learn more here.

Designing Spaces for Dogs-Creating Harmonious Homes

When our customers are thinking about features for their homes, many families create features with children in mind. Many of our customers also share their lives with dogs so it’s not unusual to include their needs in home design, along with healthy outdoor spaces. Two canine decor experts share ideas here.

Window Condensation-Control and Mitigation

Window condensation on interior glass surfaces-not in between thermal panes-can pose problems for home owners if not addressed properly. Many modern log homes feature large expanses of windows as part of their design, so we decided to take a look at what can be done. Learn more here.

Green Tip: Tracking energy consumption in your home

Most people are unaware of the sneaky power thieves that reside in their homes. However, short of turning everything completely off switch by switch, there are several nifty gadgets that can help to eliminate this silent energy use. See how.
