Katahdin’s Design Team Tips & CedarIdeas.com Launch

August 11, 2010

We’re excited about the official launch of our Cedar Ideas website. For those who want to purchase the outdoor accessories handcrafted in our Cedar Ideas workshop, you can now order directly and securely from the source! Cedar Ideas has grown along with our log home and fencing operations and offers a good selection of planters, window boxes, planting benches and other items in many styles.

With the heat most of us have been experiencing this summer, we thought it prudent to examine air conditioning systems. We share five questions you should ask your HVAC contractor. With the high cost of energy, installing a substandard cooling system just doesn’t make sense.

At the request of one of our survey respondents we share some insights from Jim Lyons who heads up Katahdin’s in-house design team. He shares six tips for making sure that your design experience goes smoothly. And for those of you considering your new kitchen, we offer some new and exciting alternatives to the stainless and granite combination. And in the Green Tip this month, we highlight some interesting new home decorating uses for recycled paper, including newspapers and shredded U.S. currency.

Smart Air Conditioning: Five things you need to know

We have a conversation with Michael Strong, president of GreenHaus Builders, Houston, Texas, about what to look for when talking to prospective HVAC contractors. He designs energy efficient systems and conducts workshops to train others to do the same. Read more here.

How Katahdin’s Team Designs Your Dream

For many people, building their Katahdin Cedar Log Home is a new adventure, the result of many months of planning, research and ideas.  We talked to the senior member of the design team, Jim Lyons, to find out how to maximize your experience in the design phase. Check out Jim’s six tips for good communication.

Cedar Ideas Launches New Website

If you love the look and longevity of cedar in your outdoor accessories, you’ll want to check out the new Cedar Ideas website. Since 1991, Katahdin’s subsidiary, Cedar Ideas, has been handcrafting outdoor accessories. Find out more here.

Kitchen Design: Rethinking Granite and Stainless

Many log home owners revel in the contrast between the warm surfaces of wood and the cool and shining surfaces of granite and stainless. However, some are looking elsewhere for fresh kitchen décor that is more harmonious to the log home setting. See these new ideas here.

Green Tip: New Products from Recycled Paper

Post consumer recycled products made from paper have been limited to pretty much, well, paper. But a couple of new products caught our eye with applications in the home. Take a peek!
