The View From Up North
Good Morning!
Our busy season starts up with plenty of homes shipping all around the country! There’s tons of work in Katahdin Fence and Cedar Ideas products to keep everyone at the mill hopping.
This month, we continue our celebration of 40 years of business with the perspectives of some of our long-term employees. They reminisce about their individual starts and perspectives on how we’ve been able to succeed for these four decades. I found it particularly interesting that each one had a slightly different take on the secret to Katahdin’s success.
Fishing is a great activity for everyone in the family and who wouldn’t delight in having a stocked fishpond on their property! We speak with a freshwater fisheries supervisor with the State of Maine to get a sense of what is involved in preparing a pond and stocking it.
Water is such an essential resource, it makes sense to consider adding a rainwater management system to a new home to collect and reuse the rain that falls on your roof. We provide some tips and resources for planning out our own rainwater collection system.
If you’ve ever wanted to include colorful tile in your décor, but just couldn’t find the right color combination, we’ve found a company that allows you to design your own tiles. As an extra bonus, the tiles are made from recycled materials.
And, we also wanted to alert you to a rare summertime opportunity to meet with log home experts in the upstate Lake George, N.Y., resort area this weekend, June 14-16, 2013. It will be an excellent weekend to explore Adirondack Mountain area attractions and learn more about Katahdin Cedar Log Homes.
We’re always looking for new article ideas to answer your questions! Drop us a line and we’ll try to include them in upcoming newsletters. Just click here to reach us.
Sincerely,
David Gordon
President

Katahdin Through the Years
Part Two: The Secret of Our Success
One of the first things that is apparent to visitors to Katahdin’s Oakfield mill is the sense of family and teamwork, genuinely expressed by the employees – from top to bottom. We are celebrating our 40th anniversary, and many who still work here are celebrating as much as three decades of service. We recently spoke with some of the long-term employees about their time with Katahdin. Read more.

Tips for Prepping and Stocking a Fish Pond
Many rural log home properties feature ponds, either spring fed or a naturally occurring collection of water in a low area. Many homeowners take the next step by preparing the pond and stocking fish. Click here for some tips for setting up your own trout pond.

Rainwater Management –
An easy way to harvest rainfall
With many areas struggling under drought conditions and municipalities restricting access to water for certain activities, it makes sense to collect the rain that falls on the roof and repurpose that water for garden watering or other non-potable uses.

This Weekend: A Rare Summertime Log Home Show Opportunity
Generally because home construction is a warm-weather activity, we use our fall and spring “downtime” to exhibit at log home shows across the country. However, an expo in the Lake George, N.Y., area offers a great chance to get away with the family and check out the latest log home information. Get the details here.
