August 31, 2009– Katahdin Well Prepared for New National Energy Efficiency Building Code Requirements
Log Home Manufacturer Meets 2009 IECC Codes for All Climate Zones
Decades of commitment to new energy- and money-saving solutions has paid off for Katahdin Cedar Log Homes with the sweeping changes to national and state building code requirements through the 2009 IECC residential codes. Today, Katahdin’s log home packages meet or exceed much more stringent energy code requirements across all climate zones without needing any additional modifications.
This year, states across the country will be reviewing and enacting comprehensive new building code requirements for residential and commercial buildings based on 2009 IECC, which come into effect beginning January 1, 2010. Key elements to these code changes are the more stringent requirements for energy efficiency in walls, ceilings, floors, mechanicals and other energy components included in a typical family home. Since many states do not have a statewide uniform code in place and rely on local municipalities or counties to set and enforce building codes, the 2009 IECC regulations may be a dramatic upgrade when compared to current local standards.

February 12, 2009– Katahdin Buys SWP Industries’ Ashland Mill
Idle Mill to Begin Production in April 2009, Adding 10-12 Jobs
Katahdin Forest Products, parent company of Katahdin Cedar Log Homes, has completed the purchase of SWP Industries’ Ashland, Maine, saw mill for an undisclosed amount. The mill is configured to saw Northern White Cedar for log homes and will also provide sawn cedar for Katahdin’s cedar fencing business.
According to David Gordon, president of Katahdin, the acquisition will nearly double the amount of rough lumber the company will be able to produce in-house for further production into homes and fencing. "This mill really allows us to maintain control over our raw commodity expenses, as we will cut in half our need to outsource sawn lumber product," he said. "This purchase really comes at an ideal time for us allowing Katahdin to meet increased demand for its products."

"We've had increased demand for an enhanced insulation system for our already efficient cedar log homes," said David Gordon, president of Katahdin Cedar Log Homes. "Our design team has developed a unique system to enhance the natural high R-value of cedar logs.
