Happy Tuesday everyone and welcome to this week’s Trade Tip! We’re going to continue talking about the design process and head right into this week’s tip: Your New Home Should Start with Your Old Home.

Designing a new custom log home is an immensely exciting process, but it can also feel very daunting. The internet has a lot to do with that. Gone are the days where you had to send away for plan books. Now you can sit at home on your computer or phone and search through literally millions of home plans and design ideas, all at your fingertips.  It doesn’t take long to start asking yourself “hmm should I put in an indoor water feature?” So how do you get from “wow, this looks cool” to “I definitely want this in my new home”?

Begin with your current house and go room to room. What do you like about each room? What do you dislike? What flows well and what could be improved? Do you wish your first floor was more open? Do you long for a dedicated entertainment space? Have you always dreamed of a craft room? Also, think about your daily routine and how much time you spend in each room. A lot of people start out designing massive master bedrooms but, in reality, most people don’t spend a lot of time in there. Could that space could be better utilized elsewhere?

Starting this way will make it much easier to either choose a plan or design your own from scratch. It will also greatly assist your dealer and our design team with making your new dream custom home a reality.

Thanks for tuning in to this week’s Trade Tip…we hope to see you again next week!
