Dual Purpose Rooms, Central Vacuums, Pergolas

July 12, 2013

Good Morning!

Coming off of one of the rainiest Junes that Maine has had in recent history, the heat and humidity have thrown us back into our short but busy summer season. We’ve a bit of an increase in visitors directed our way from signs posted on the detour while the Oakfield exit of Interstate 95 undergoes some improvements. It’s always great to see folks in the summer and share a little of what we do at the mills.

This month’s issue covers some interesting options for dual-purpose rooms- it seems everyone wants to stretch their budget in practical ways. Converting unused space into storage or built-in options adds to a log home’s value and utility down the road.

We take on cleaning this month as well, from central vacuum systems-easy to install in Katahdin Cedar Log Homes because of the Energy Envelope System-to other floor cleaning appliances including my wife’s home made cleaning supplies. Cleaning has become an art as well as a science.

Finally we talk about new options for outdoor decks to provide shade, shelter or protection from the sun.

We’re always looking for new article ideas to answer your questions!  Drop us a line and we’ll try to include them in upcoming newsletters. Just click here to reach us.

Sincerely,

David Gordon
President

Combining a guest room with an office, a craft or sewing room, or children’s playroom can make sense if the project is approached with an eye for detail. One fantastic way to create dual purpose areas -and utilize bits of space that are left unused in many designs is to install built-ins. Read more.

Shade Sails & Pergolas: Style and Protection

Log homes often feature large deck areas that create extra outdoor living areas. Adding a shade sail or a more permanent pergola can keep these areas pleasant when the sun is high in the sky or rain threatens out door activities. Check out options here.

Green Tip:
Homemade cleaning supplies

Many savvy consumers are looking to traditional cleaning methods as a way to save money, cut down on exposure to chemicals and clean up effectively with ordinary household ingredients.
